Sri Lankan cricketer Dhananjaya de Silva has pulled out from the upcoming tour to West Indies after his father was shot dead by unidentified gunmen.

Sri Lankan cricketer Dhananjaya de Silva has pulled out from the upcoming tour to West Indies after his father was shot dead by unidentified gunmen. The tragedy took place on the eve of Sri Lankan teams departure to the West Indies for a three-match Test series.

An AFP report said that Silva’s father Ranjan worked as a local politician, was gunned down in Ratmalana in Colombo, around midnight on Thursday, according to cops.

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board issued a statement, saying, “We are extremely shocked, perturbed and saddened by the great loss suffered by Dhananjaya and his family.”

The statement further added, “Sri Lanka Cricket will take every measure to support Dhananjaya at this time of sorrow and grief for him and his family while giving him time to overcome the great pain and suffering caused by this tragedy.”
